Software licensing

License terms

A plain-language guide to choosing between a regular license and an extended license.

Regular license

Best for projects where end users are not charged to access the final website.

You can

  • Build one free-to-use website or app
  • Customize the product for yourself or a client
  • Use the result for a client project with a one-time handoff

You cannot

  • Charge users for access to the final product
  • Run paid subscriptions, memberships, or paid access features
  • Resell the source code or included modules

Extended license

Best for commercial platforms where customers pay to access or use the final website.

You can

  • Build one paid-access website or app
  • Charge users through subscriptions, fees, credits, or paid content
  • Customize the product for yourself or a client

You cannot

  • Use the license for multiple separate products
  • Redistribute the source code as a standalone item
  • Sell product modules, assets, or code as reusable software

Rules that apply to both

  • Each license covers one end product for you or one client.
  • You may modify the code and combine it with other software for that end product.
  • You may transfer the finished end product to a client when the license was purchased for that client.
  • You may not redistribute, resell, sublicense, or package the source code as a competing product.
